Editor's Note: The following letter was written by Patty, a resident at UGM's Crisis Shelter for Women and Children, to her family and friends. She graciously agreed to let us share her greeting with you as a picture of the impact you are making. Merry Christmas from all of us here at UGM!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my family and friends!
I hope you all are healthy, happy and blessed. I miss you all very much.
Just wanted to write you all a short note and let you know that 2012 has been a trying but successful year for me. I have given myself and my alcohol addiction over to God. He has totally taken the desire to draink away from me. I have three and a half months sober, and there is no going back for me. I have been in Washington since August 22nd. I was in Rosalia, Washington for ten days. It didn't work out; so I was brought here to the Mission in Spokane, Washington. I had a major relapse and was in ICU for a day and a half. I was close to death from alcohol. I then gave it to God and haven't looked back.
Now, 106 days later, I am off my anti-depressants, my anxiety meds and have dropped one of my high blood pressure meds, and the dose of the other one has been cut in half. I am so happy these days. :) I am definitely blessed. I haven't felt this good in about five years.
I have been job hunting and might have a job. I work here at the Shelter, the UGM Thrift Store and do janitorial training here at the Mission. It has really helped my self-esteem. I feel like ME again.
