Making Connections for Homeless Veterans

If you had a bunch of money in the bank with your name on it but didn’t know about the account, what good would it do you?

That’s the situation for some homeless veterans who come to our doors. Many resources are “out there” for them, but they need someone to tell them where. Even then, following that paper trail can be pretty daunting for someone who has been struggling just to eat and get out of the cold.

Military service ran in Ben’s family. Growing up, he planned to follow suit. But first, he wanted to let loose.

“I moved to Arizona and I started playing with some guys in a band. I was looking for crazy and I got it. It was partying every night, then dragging to work after three hours of sleep. It was fun in the beginning, but it just kinda got old.”

While 2015 Point-in-Time Count numbers for the nation showed an overall decrease in veteran homelessness, the statistic for homeless veterans in Spokane increased between 2014 and 2015 from 85 to 101.
