Volunteers Providing Welcome
UGM’s volunteer case managers stand on the frontlines of ministry, offering listening ears and wise counsel to men and women in crisis.
Roy and Sharyle Croswhite served as work crew leaders when their church, Valley Assembly, hosted a week at Tshimakain Creek Camp. Roy and Sharyle have done a lot to help with the construction and maintenance of the cabins, but this was their first time to spend a week with the campers from Progress Elementary. Both said it was great to see the camp filled with kids having fun and learning about Jesus – many for the first time.
Sharyle shared a simple story that impacted her in a big way. One little boy was astonished by his good fortune at meal time: “You mean I get to eat a WHOLE sandwich?”
Roy said he’s looking forward to the ongoing relationship. “On the last night, we impressed upon the kids that it might be their last night at camp, but it wasn’t their last night with us. They belong to us now. They are a part of the Valley Assembly family.” A letter went home with each child inviting their families to a follow-up barbecue.
What happens at Tshimakain doesn’t stay at Tshimakain.
