Volunteers Providing Welcome
UGM’s volunteer case managers stand on the frontlines of ministry, offering listening ears and wise counsel to men and women in crisis.
When Autymn Wilde, a sixth-grade student at Summit School in Spokane Valley, set her sights on her school’s top honor – the Zenith Award – she chose to do her community service hours at the Union Gospel Mission. Last year, Autymn did crafts with the children at the UGM Crisis Shelter over the Christmas holidays. One particular little girl, mesmerized by Autymn’s snowflake-making abilities, captured Autymn’s heart and ensured her love of helping the homeless for life. As a result, this year Autymn decided to raise money to help fund the Crisis Shelter. So far, she has raised $404.30 and wants to keep going. She and her grandma have also helped at the UGM Thrift Store in the Valley, sorting donations.
The Zenith Award has additional academic requirements and is only awarded to students who exemplify the school’s core values: compassion, responsibility, enthusiasm and wonder. We think Autymn is a perfect fit!
