Volunteers Providing Welcome
UGM’s volunteer case managers stand on the frontlines of ministry, offering listening ears and wise counsel to men and women in crisis.
Tim Hepper began volunteering at the UGM Crisis Shelter four years ago shortly after his wife died. “There was a hole in my life that I knew only God could fill, and I began to ask Him where I could serve. I believe He led me to the Crisis Shelter.”
Six months ago, Tim married Amanda and they began volunteering together on Thursday evenings. They help the residents put together resumes, work on budgets and practice interviewing for jobs. “We hope to help them see they have value in the eyes of God and our community,” Tim said.
Amanda said seeing those concepts come alive for the women is her favorite part of volunteering. “I love seeing the ladies realize they do have value and come to know how faithful our Father is. It is so much fun to see them get excited when they see their resume or do well in a mock interview or have a budget and then begin to gain confidence.”
