Volunteers Providing Welcome
UGM’s volunteer case managers stand on the frontlines of ministry, offering listening ears and wise counsel to men and women in crisis.
Lorna is a retired nurse practitioner who serves at the UGM Center for Women & Children in Coeur d’Alene, treating colds, flu and respiratory infections, helping with ongoing medication management and creating wellness plans for residents, many of whom have neglected their physical health for years.
Because of Lorna and the other medical professionals who volunteer at UGM, we are truly able to provide whole-person recovery, prevent excessive trips to area emergency rooms, address physical symptoms that might otherwise go untreated and perform well-child check-ups. We are also able to connect residents to additional resources like prescription assistance and Project Access for more critical issues. One woman got the prescription she needed to deal with blood clots in her brain. Many female residents received diagnostic and screening mammograms. One man had hernia surgery; another man’s eyesight was saved. All of this was made possible through volunteers. UGM’s collective heart overflows with gratitude for this clear manifestation of the hands and feet of Jesus.
The amazing thing is that the volunteers express their own gratitude for the work they are doing. In Lorna’s words: “The staff are wonderful. Everybody is so helpful. You meet people who just change their lives. They come in, and they’ve had such trauma in their lives, and to see them grow and expand… Wow! It’s amazing!”
UGM could not do what it does without volunteers. We are deeply grateful for the rich variety of talents they bring to the ministry and the people we serve!
