Joining Together for Camp

By Ryan Brown, UGM Youth Outreach Director

There’s a beautiful synergy that happens at camp each year that is truly an example of the Body of Christ working together to reach young people. As we begin our first week, I’m reminded of how big our camp ‘team’ is, and of course how big God is. God is inspiring people far and wide, in big ways and little ways, to give of themselves so that over 500 kids can have the experience of a lifetime.

This year’s Spokane-Eastern WA Chapter of the Women’s Council of REALTORS Wellness Celebration and Rally decided to mix things up a bit. Instead of providing makeovers for some of their own members, the council reached out to various women in the community.

Teaching Children to Serve Others

Posted by Barbara Comito, Marketing Director Nov 14, 2013 5:43:00 PM

“Share.” As a parent, how many times do you suppose you’ve said that word?  We want our children to be generous, selfless, compassionate, but sometimes it can seem like an uphill battle, to say the least. How exactly do you inspire those virtues? How do you give them eyes to see those who are hurting or homeless or suffering?

Dreams that grow into forests

Posted by Barbara Comito, Marketing Director Oct 30, 2013 7:00:00 AM

Group gathered on a foggy Saturday to dedicate heart-shaped tree park.

This blog post is a little different for UGM. It’s not really about the homeless. Not directly anyway. It’s not about meals or shelter or recovery. It’s not about anything we did. Actually, UGM is a bit player in this story.

The Towel

Posted by Barbara Comito, Marketing Director Oct 29, 2013 3:57:00 PM

Funny how our inner thoughts are conveyed without us realizing it. I don’t remember making a big deal of not calling someone a hypocrite, but truly, it’s probably the worst insult in my book and certainly the last name I would want to be called.

Good-bye, dear friend

Grace Peterson created a beautiful tapestry with her life, and the people of UGM – staff, residents and volunteers – are oh-so-grateful to have been incorporated into her story.

Grace began volunteering at the Mission in 1985 after working at Sears for many years. She immediately fell in love with the women and children at Anna Ogden Hall, keeping the clothing attic tidy for 15 years.

2013 Volunteer Appreciation Dinner

Posted by Barbara Comito, Marketing Director Jun 17, 2013 9:56:00 AM

Volunteers are a huge part of everything that happens at the Union Gospel Mission. They devote countless hours in service to the poor of our community. And so, every year, UGM hosts a Volunteer Appreciation Dinner to thank these faithful servants of God. When Director of Volunteers Greg Barclay started at UGM, there were only 50 high-impact volunteers.
