Behind the scenes at UGM, you’ll find a number of people who don’t like to attract attention, but whose work is essential to the mission of reaching the poor with the Gospel so they may return to society as contributing members.

One of those people is Dean Bitz, director of operations, who oversees all of the functional underpinnings so the visible ministries of UGM can be effective. We asked Dean a few questions about his life, work, and heart for the ministry.

Charlonne Ostrander’s job is all about money. Except it’s not.

As donations processing manager, Charlonne oversees all the financial donations that come into Union Gospel Mission. If you’ve given a gift to UGM, chances are, Charlonne has touched it. In this way, her work affects every other person in the ministry because, without the generous gifts of the community, UGM would not be able to feed, shelter, counsel, clothe or care for the needs of people who come through our doors (and none of the rest of us would have a job).

At 29, Robbie Bremer is already a renaissance man: He loves playing the drums, serving at his church and fabricating metal parts. All of those skills have become valuable assets as he works on the UGM maintenance and facilities staff.

Randy Altmeyer has worked at UGM for 30 years, serving in various positions, and he and his family have played an integral role at the Mission. He is passionate about helping those in need, and is transitioning out of ministry at UGM to embark on a different journey helping the most vulnerable in our community.

30 Years Serving at UGM

UGM Men's Shelter Chaplain Randy Altmeyer has served at UGM in several capacities over the span of 30 years. He is now retiring to embark on a new adventure, moving from a ministry in which his family has been deeply rooted, to another ministry that shares a deep family connection.

Rich Schaus has completed 13 years of ministry at the Union Gospel Mission. He served approximately 5 years at Anna Ogden Hall before being appointed the Director of the Crisis Shelter for Women and Children when it opened in January of 2007.
